Back from the Holiday Weekend

Hello Everybody,
Well, we have made it back home from the cabin. We always hate to leave, but work calls. We had a really nice weekend. Denise cooked an awesome Thanksgiving meal, which she will post about. A turkey breast, mashed potatoes and her world famous stuffing. You can forget the bird and the potatoes just give me her stuffing, it is to die for. Thanksgiving morning we had to run to Houghton Lake for some items for dinner. The rest of the day was Denise preparing dinner, she refused any help from me and I watched the Lions get their backside handed to them by the Titans. Oh, there is no doubt that the Lions will not win a game this year.

Friday morning I got up and headed out to my hunting spot. Saw nothing. Around 1000 am I called Denise and asked if she wanted to go to Wally World (Walmart) to see what they had on sale. She did, so we headed up to shop. We bought a hand mixer for $4.00. We'll see how long it lasts.
Friday evening we headed over to friends Shawn and Tracy's. They own a 3500 square foot log cabin. We could fit our cabin in their living room. Their place is awesome. They have several mounts. Shawn is the most avid hunter I know. Below are some of the mounts they have.

We were there until 230am, needless to say I did not get up early to go hunting. I did not get into the blind until 1100am on Saturday. What a great day to be in God's country. The sun was shining, there was no wind it was just a great day. The only thing that would have made it better would have been seeing a deer. Nothing moving all day long. After shooting hours had ended, I saw three doe's. One gave me a great profile, would have been a great shot. Only one problem I don't have a doe permit, they were sold out. There are signs all over this hill, including a couple of beds but during the day no deer are moving.

One of two deer beds near my blind.

The hunting day ended with a really nice sunset.

Denise had dinner ready for me, Turkey Shepard's Pie. It was very good and topped off a great day in the great outdoors. Later we went up to the Elbow Lake Bar to have a drink. The Elbow is also a log cabin built around the same time ours was built. They have really good food and the folks that own and work there are the best. 'Everybody knows your name'

Early Sunday, I was back in the blind. Nothing moving and did not see anything. At noon I packed up and headed back to the cabin. We got everyting ready and headed for home. All in all, a great weekend.

Since this hunting thing does not seem to be working, I do have ice fishing to look forward to. Our lake is frozen over, but it is not safe to walk on yet.

We hope that you all had a great Thanksgiving!!

Take care,

Bill

Good morning Bill and Denise,... your weekend sounds great even if there was no luck hunting. Take heart,... smelt or perch in the pan will be even better when that ice thickens!

Hi Bill & Denise - sounds like you had a wonderful Thanksgiving! Tell Denise she will need to see my earlier post before Thanksgiving - we were ready to come spend it w/ you guys - ha,ha!
Greg went hunting Thanksgiving morning too - nothing moving. When we checked his deer cam later - there were just a couple of does wandering about. Your friend's place is amazing. But I think there's a lot to be said for a small cozy cabin as well!

I agree your friends place looks awesome. There must be loads of log cabins in your area. I'd love to go to the Elbow Lake Bar. Have a drink in a log cabin...oh yes!!!

Sounds like your Thanksgiving was great.

Too bad about the hunt. If it makes you feel any better my husband got a monster gobbler Thursday morning with a bow. Never found it. :( That's never happened before.
Glad you all had a great weekend and how lucky you are to have that cabin to escape to!
PS -Hello to Denise the good cook.

Glad to see you could sit a spell on my new blog. I am in lower MI and our local lake is frozen over as well...not safe to walk on either.

I agree...I like cozy places!

Susan Thanks for stopping in and please stop in often.

Cedar thanks for for your comments. I cannot wait for good ice to get out there and fish. Nothing better than freshly caught fish in the frying pan.

Shellmo you could have come over no problem. Glad to know I am not the only one that didn't see any deer.

Rick & Dianne if you ever in Michigan let us know, we would be more than happy to take you to the Elbow Lake Bar.

Thaks Jen, Sorry to hear about the turkey who got away.

Thanks for stopping in Sit a Spell. Hope you visit often.

Take care
Bill

Looks like you and your friend really like hunting. Wayne and I aren't very good with that kind of thing. We catch and release our fish and even our mice. Go figure. But sounds like you have lots in the outdoors even if you don't catch anything. Thank you to Denise for coming to my blog and checking out the Hulks. -- Margy

Margy, I guess it's how you grew up. We grew up with wild game and we certainly love the outdoors and greatly respect the wildlife around us.
